Elections are drawing close, and the battle for votes has certainly heated up. Every year political figures keep turning to the famous filmi folk to lend support to their campaign. However, this time, the Films-Politics connection has gone to a new level altogether.

With the recent sweep at the Oscars and the final rise to fame by India's Beethoven - A.R. Rahman, the song 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire has become a global hit. And just recently, Congress has officially acquired the rights to use the song for their election campaign.

Father of Slumdog Star Rubina Ali Arrested

Rafiq Qureshi, the father of Slumdog Millionaire starlet Rubina Ali, has been arrested over claims that he tried to sell his daughter for 200,000 pounds.

A complaint from the 36-year-old man’s ex-wife initiated the arrest. Indian cops spent several hours quizzing Qureshi and are now on a prowl to obtain video recordings of the meeting at which the deal was supposedly brokered, reports The Sun. Rubina`s mother Khurshida claimed she knew two weeks ago of the intended child-trade with a rich Dubai sheikh. H! owever, she added: "My elder daughter had informed me...I did not believe he would actually go through with it." Khurshida dubbed her ex-hubby and his new wife Mina as "money-crazy" and desperate to cash-in on the nine-year-old`s fame.

Police official Prakash Salunke, who is leading the investigation, said: "Khursida was very upset by the media reports and she came to lodge a complaint. "We are registering her grievance and then we’ll investigate and decide what further steps should be taken in the matter. When we questioned Rubina she said she does not want to go anywhere and wants to live with her father. "Similarly, Rafiq Qureshi also said he has no intentions of selling her." Christian Colson, the producer of Slumdog Millionaire, said: "Our friends and colleagues in Mumbai are trying to speak with Mr Qureshi to get to the bottom of what happened."

Saif Bebo All Set To Kiss On Screen

Saif Ali Khan is all set to indulge in some passionate romance with real life girlfriend Kareena Kapoor in Rensil D’Silva’s upcoming flick.

However the idea of doing an intimate scene with Bebo made Saif uncomfortable and left him feeling conscious all the time while filming it.

Saif says,“It was obviously easier to do the intimate scenes with Kareena as my co-star and it would be the easiest thing for me to say otherwise, but I’ll admit, having Kareena as my co-star on the sets actually made me feel ! more responsible, and so more conscious. I did not want to show off our relationship by accentuating the intimacy aspect. It was quite a double-edged sword there! Of, course, at the end of the day we’re all actors, but this was certainly different.”

“It’s a love story with a passionate and relevantly disturbing theme. And I have kissing scenes with Kareena because Rensil is making a real contemporary film here. We just can’t have two flowers touching each other to show intimacy. At the same, we have taken care that there isn’t anything that will make us squirm while watching the film with our parents. We’ve done the scenes tastefully and within the limits of decorum.”

Why Shahid's Next Is Called Kaminey - Exposed

Director-cum-music composer Vishal Bhardwaj is the latest director to join a social networking site to promote his film. Vishal has joined Facebook, adding to the ranks of his Kaminey actors Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, among many other top Bollywood actors and stars.

He has begun by talking about his eagerly awaited next, Kaminey. Getting straight to the point about the unusual and attention-grabbing title of the film, he says, “My intention was not to get gimmicky with the title.

Since everyone's mean in the film, it was apt. Some are lovable Kaminey and some are obnoxious, but all are running high on lust and desire. Everybody was against me using this title, but when I bounced it off Gulzar Saab, he loved it!”

If people are speculating about the movie all confused about it which genre it belongs to, Vishal clears the doubts stating, Kaminey falls in the caper genre.

He says, “Kaminey is a caper and falls in a genre never been explored before in India properly. Initially, I had thought it would be easy to write and make, but it turned out to be tough to write and even tougher to make. ”

About the characters in the film, the Omkara maker says, “The film has a wide array of characters, who all have equal intensity, and yet, there is no time to establish them. One has to catch them in the flow of the story and yet make them memorable.

Exploring such a territory and then topping it up with some Bol! lywood masala and romance has been rigorous and unsympathetic.! ”

Lip lock Is Not A Big Deal With Saif - Deepika Padukone

There has been a huge buzz in the film industry and media circles about Deepika Padukone’s lip lock with her Love Aaj Kal co-star Saif Ali Khan in their film.

When we caught up with the Om Shanti Om girl at the media meet of Love Aaj Kal and removed the topic about the same, Deepika appeared pretty cool about the whole thing.

She told us, “I think it was necessary in the film. I believed in the role and keeping that in mind I have been able to perform the role well. We have all moved ahead for how long are we going to show flowers or birds tweeting during a kissing ! scene.”

When asked whether her beau Ranbir Kapoor had seen the film and approved of it, Deepika said, “I have always believed in keeping my personal and professional life apart.

We both know our professional demands and we don’t interfere in it. For me I am happy to have him in my life. He is my best friend.”

Though few other stars may have had their apprehensions about appearing on Salman Khan hosted reality game show Dus Ka Dum, it didn’t take a minute for Shilpa Shetty to give her for the show. Not many are aware that Shilpa shares a special friendship bond with Salman since quiet a few years.

The last episode of DKD will see Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff. “The shooting for last episode is also over and it was a touchy moment for the second season of DKD. Alongside the viewers will also see Sohail and Arbaaz Khan with Salman sharing the one screen on the show, ” concludes the source.

As per Sallu’s contract, there will be third season grooving next year. So let’s wait and wait of what will be the new flavour of the next innings.
